New Possibilities

Jay and her Two Left Arms

Race

My inspiration

It’s a chance for us all to show each other that we can do anything if we put our minds to it

Details

Jay and her Two Left Arms are taking on the Mallory Park Triathlon. So, Dave (Paralympian) & Luke (his tandem partner) have a bit an edge because they do this all the time, not the same for Reach Ambassador, Jay Howard & Reach Ops Lead, SJ who are very much….first timers! Jay is kicking us off with a swim – Dave and Luke get in the driving seat on the bike – and then SJ is making the final dash to the finish line at Mallory Park, famous as a motor racing circuit, am not sure we’ll get up that kind of speed – but we’re going to give it our darndest!

Together we are raising money for the Reach 18-25 Retreat & Mentorship Programme, this year 8 volunteer mentors, all adults with upper limb differences are supporting 17 young adults to connect, find their voice and community in a space they can trust, where people ‘get it’. The Weekend of the Triathlon is also the weekend of this year’s Retreat, so we feel very proud to be helping sustain this wonderful gift for young adults.

A little note from Jay:

Taking on a triathlon wasn’t exactly on my bingo card this year, but neither is letting an opportunity pass to support something I care deeply about. The Reach 18–25 Retreat is something I believe in wholeheartedly. It gives young adults the chance to connect, share experiences and realise they’re not alone. So while I may be questioning my fitness levels along the way, I’m never going to question whether this cause is worth the effort.
