Flora London Marathon 2008
Reach was able to offer a charity place to Michelle Frost and rather
than run ( or walk) the course she decided to do it on STILTS!!
This was the first time that anyone has done the marathon on stilts
and it has created a certain amount of interest from the media.
Thus helping to promote Reach.
Michelle's older sister was born without a hand and received help
from REACH, so this was an opportunity for the family to say thank
you. Now it is our turn to say THANK YOU to Michelle and her support
crew.
Michelle finally had chance to catch her breath and send us this
message:
Sorry for not contacting you yet, been a bit hectic since I've been
back!
But all good!
I got my official certificate from Guinness presented on This Morning
on Monday (14th April). My official time is 8 hours 25 mins!
It was long & hard but totally worth it, the cheers from the
crowds & all the runners carried me through, even when I finished
there were still loads of people around to cheer me through the
finish line!
I was supported throughout the day by my parents John & Jackie,
my sister Samantha and her friend Cassie & 4 of my friends who
were my 'support team' and cheering squad Nicola, Sarah, Rick &
Steven as well as Sam & Andy. They were amazing support and
are suffering too as they walked at least 14 miles of the course
if not more with me. As well as catching me & picking me up
when I fell over at 22 miles!
But it was all good, would've liked better weather! Got soaked &
frozen in the rain & hail, and am now suffering from a stiff
hip and a blister that covers the complete back of my heel!
But definitly loved the experience and am up for doing it again!
Thank you so much for letting me do this for you! Currently gathering
off many people but the current total is about £7200 for now!
Other Results from the Marathon website are:
Lisa Lisney 5 hours 3mins Paul Buck 5 hours 2mins
Rebecca Marsham 5 hours 4mins
Breda Hughes 5 hours 3 mins
Rebacca sent us this news flash
Breda and I are now over-proud marathon runners!
We completed the 100th London Marathon in under
5 hours and, to be fair, we could have done a lot better (I choose
to believe) had the weather been just a little bit more on our side.
We faced driving rain, tear jerking hail, gale force winds and sub
zero (almost arctic) conditions and still we jogged on to the finish
line and into the arms of our patiently waiting loved ones.
I admit that even though there were a few moments
where I could have laid my aching body down and wept and wailed
into the tarmac, it's a fantastic day, and despite being drenched
right down to me knickers by the endless gallons of rain the big
man upstairs decided to ensconce us with, the atmosphere is truly
electric and it's such a buzz to be part of something as big as
this event.
It's the best!
uh oh, i feel a repeat performance on the horizon
(specifically April 2009) and have already agreed to run it again
with Pat. oh dear... what was that about this being a one off?
