On the 10th December 2007 Harold Wood Dsc hosted their annual Christmas party for the children that attend the hospital. Many of the children there were “Reach” members and they come along with their siblings and parents of course...Many of the children dressed up in fancy dress and it really was wonderful to see so many make the effort. Also the staff took part in the festivities by dressing up as snowmen. The entertainment was provided by the wonderful Mr Custard, who again amused the children with his wonderful antics and humour. The highlight of the day was seeing him get a cream cake in the face from a young member, who I think enjoyed it very much !! . mind you the children would say it was seeing his lovely fluffy rabbit that they all loved.… The children danced, played games, and had a lot of fun. Towards the end of the party the children had a surprise visit from Father Christmas who gave all the children an early present. By the end of the party there were quite a few tired little children.
The party was organised and funded by the staff at the DSC, and they really do make a fantastic day for all the children. Also, they provided refreshments and nibbles for parents and carers. On behalf of all the Reach members that attended I would like to say “Thankyou” to all the staff at the unit who all year round raise funds by raffles etc so that the children can have their party.
A few ideas were mentioned for activities this year, including Lego Land, and Chessington World of Adventures, I will contact you all nearer the time when I will be arranging this.
Also, for all Essex Branch members, although we didn’t get together before Christmas to meet up, as mentoned above I will be trying to organise a day out soon..Once the weather breaks.
